Network Peering Services Provider, LINX, Presents Conspicuous Contribution Award (Hosted Kerio Groupware by Inftek Hosting)

December 23, 2007 – 6:30 pm

London, United Kingdom - (The Hosting News) - December 19, 2007 - The London Internet Exchange (LINX), has presented its Conspicuous Contribution Award, to Dr. Richard Clayton, an academic at Cambridge University and consultant for LINX member, THUS plc (incorporating founding LINX member, Demon Internet).

The presentation was made during the recent LINX member meeting at the Goodenough College in London in November and judging by the warm reception given to Dr. Clayton by the delegates, it was a very popular decision indeed.

Grahame Davies, Chairman of LINX noted, ”Richard has been attending LINX general meetings for nearly 10 years now and can always be relied upon to provide support through objective questions and points of view. Through interaction like this, LINX and its Board benefit from the vast knowledge and experience of its members.”

The ‘Conspicuous Contribution’ prize was first given in 2006 to Nigel Titley of Easynet who was a LINX council member from its 1994 formation through to 2006.

Dr. Clayton remarked, ”Nigel’s contribution is crystal clear for all to see but my own was perhaps a little less obvious. I’ve often given talks at the quarterly LINX meetings but I suspect that the main reason that I received the award is because of my contribution to many of LINX’s Best Current Practice documents. These have covered everything from traceability to spam and have proved to be hugely influential. The BCPs highlight the best ways for the industry to operate on key issues, spreading knowledge to all of the organisations that need to know. They demonstrate to the Government and the regulators that the industry is responsible and can explain why it works the way it does. They also educate end-users and - when there’s a dispute with an abuse@ team - that other ISPs will take the same dim view of their spamming as their current provider. This in turn reduces churn and helps everyone to work things out more sensibly.”

John Souter, CEO of LINX added, ”It is an exciting time in the development of LINX and Richard’s part in that growth cannot be underestimated. Being able to call upon his extensive experience and expertise is very important us and we are delighted to acknowledge his input in this way.”

LINX is a mutual organization owned and consisting of approximately 250 Internet service providers and content delivery service providers. It allows competing networks to exchange Internet traffic cost-effectively, bringing speed and efficiency benefits to their customers. The LINX platform enables access to Internet routes, reaching more countries, than any other public peering point. LINX operates in a regulatory and policy environment that is supportive of network operators and the Internet community, which it strives to maintain and reinforce through its Public Affairs activities. The LINX network includes over 550 connected member ports, over 50 member-facing 10GigE ports, and over 150Gb/sec of peak traffic.

Houston, Texas - (The Hosting News) - December 21, 2007 - Shared, dedicated and reseller web hosting firm, Host Gator, is offering 4,500 free website templates to customers and resellers, covering nearly 120 different types of businesses, designed to enable non-technical building of effective websites.

Brent Oxley, Founder and President of HostGator remarked, ”These templates are free to any Website hosted by HostGator, whether on a shared or dedicated hosting plan, or through a hosting reseller. We want to make hosting domains or building websites as painless as possible, that’s why we offer the free templates. We also offer free Site Builder, one of the easiest tools available for anybody wanting to custom build a website, rather than use a template.”

The free templates cover a broad range of page designs suitable for nearly 120 different types of small and medium-sized businesses - from accountants and auto dealers, to cleaning services, consultants, martial arts studios, toy stores, women’s health clinics, and everything in between. The wide variety of templates makes it easier for resellers to attract people and businesses who want websites, but don’t have the knowledge or design abilities needed to create good looking websites.

Although it’s common for Web hosting companies to offer a variety of perks, including free or low cost Web tools, and even a limited number of templates, Mr. Oxley says the number of free templates HostGator has is far beyond the average, adding, ”I really don’t know of any other large hosting company offering this many templates. We may be setting the trend here.”

To apply the free templates, a reseller or webmaster may browse through the templates, select one or more to use, and they automatically begin downloading to the omputer. Hosting resellers and webmasters are also welcome to modify and HostGator’s templates, so long as the websites remain hosted by HostGator.

As an added feature, resellers can actually mirror HostGator’s templates pages to show to their customers. That makes accessing the templates easy, while maintaining control over who can accesss them.

Mr. Oxley concludes, ”The only restriction is that the templates can’t be sold or distributed for use on websites not hosted by us.”

Founded in 2002, Host Gator has become a leader in reseller hosting, assisting over 15,000 businesses become web hosting companies. Glasgow, United Kingdom - (The Hosting News) - December 21, 2007 - Web hosting and managed services company, iomart group plc, has released its consolidated interim financial results for the six month period ending 30th September 2007, revealing that the group has been in line with expectations, after a first-half pre-tax loss, due to the initial development of the datacentre business.

Angus MacSween, CEO of iomart remarked, ”We are seeing considerable and growing interest in both our datacentre services and our complex hosting capability - particularly from our target market of blue-chip enterprises seeking long term solutions. These will form the core of the group’s future revenue streams, providing high margin earnings with good visibility.”

The Group posted a pre-tax loss of 435,000 pounds compared with a pre-tax profit of 30,000 pounds a year ago. Revenue fell to 9.6M pounds versus 10.9 M a year earlier. The Group sees positive market dynamics within the datacentre space, as echoed by numerous market commentators. With demand outstripping supply, prices for datacentre space are inevitably increasing.

Mr. MacSween added, ”This increasing market demand, coupled with iomart’s ability to offer the complete set of components in the hosting arena from dedicated servers through to complex managed hosting solutions and co-location space, means that the Group is well positioned to win high-value contracts with large organisations requiring significant amounts of rack space. Contracts of this kind, usually long-term, attract a premium price while offering numerous up-selling opportunities.”

The main focus of the management team, during the reporting period, has been to make the datacentres fully operational and able to deliver according to the highest industry standards. Both the London and Glasgow datacentres are fully operational and commissioning work has begun on the Nottingham and Leicester datacentres.

Mr. MacSween concluded, ”We have significantly increased our profile as a prominent player within the datacentre market, capable of offering a full end-to-end service. As a result of these developments, combined with encouraging market conditions, we are very positive regarding the long term prospects for its datacentre business. We believe that our strategy of becoming a leader in managed complex hosting, leveraging our own national infrastructure and experience will create a business with strong revenue streams, providing high margin earnings and good visibility.”

Founded in 1998, iomart is recognised as one of Europe’s largest and most established data centre facilities provider, including hosting and managed services.
