Takeshi Eto, VP Marketing at DiscountASP.NET remarked, ”The Control Panel CardSpace integration serves two main purposes. First, especially with the recent introduction of .NET 3.5 hosting, we wanted to demonstrate the use of new .NET 3.x technology. Second, we wanted to give our customers the opportunity to provide feedback on CardSpace during this early stage as Microsoft works toward delivering on their vision for an Identity Metasystem.”
With the new addition, using the traditional username and password login access, customers with Internet Explorer 7 and CardSpace on their local computer can use personal Information Cards for password-free login to their hosting control panel.

Sydney, Australia - (The Hosting News) - December 6, 2007 - Web applications hosting and online technology services company, HostWorks, has been chosen to host Partner4real, an online dating service aimed at the Facebook generation, to meet customer demand on its website, which exceeded 12,000 visitors a day within weeks of going live.
Hostworks is a specialist company that guarantees the online performance of some of Australia’s most successful businesses including Codan, Compass Group, Network Ten, SBS, News Digital Media, ninemsn, realestate.com.au, SEEK, Southern Cross View, Ticketek and Wotif.com.
Partner4real.com.au was established in June 2007 after Australian entrepreneurs, Chris McKay and Anthony Johnston, met by chance at a Sydney carwash. With plans to turn online dating on its head, the pair launched a new way people could search for potential partners in Australia and, during 2008, in the US and the UK.
Chris McKay, Co-founder and Managing Director of Partner4real commented, ”During the stunt, we were getting up to 12,000 visitors to the website a day.”
Aimed at 24-39 year olds, Partner4real.com.au distinguishes itself in the competitive online dating space by providing social networking tools such as a ”Lifelog” to which members upload photos and videos via their mobile phones and email, free of charge. Partner4real.com.au generated massive publicity in August when it set up Sydney’s luckiest bachelor, Paul Bardetta, in a glass house on Circular Quay, where he chose four dates a day from women who signed up online for their chance to join in the dating game.
Mr. McKay added, ”Hostworks was able to handle that demand - there were no issues. They have a very good reputation and they are the best of breed in the country at what they do. It was their managed services and the infrastructure they worked with that made them attractive as a technology partner. I’m familiar with the Hostworks data centre, their methodologies, managed service capability and their procedures. We wanted a partner which was very reliable and had the infrastructure and managed service capability to support our growth and scalability. We want to go international with the site during 2008, with Hostworks supporting it. Hostworks guarantees that we don’t lose the website during power failures or suffer unplanned downtime. It also meets our requirements for a high level of IT security.”
Hostworks provides the managed services that power Partner4real’s MySQL database and applications, including the Apache web server and Tomcat application server, running on Red Hat Linux 5.0.
Mr. McKay also indicated that Hostworks provided data communication services for Partner4real, stating that ”Hostworks’ 24X7 managed services give us a real turnkey solution. It’s a complete service they provide for the website. We don’t have to worry at all about the back end. Our strategy is to make the service absolutely bullet-proof here and then go into the US and UK. Once we are satisfied with the website as a product, and we feel it’s supporting the Australian market, then we will take it overseas in 2008 and support it from Australia with Hostworks. We have been very happy with Hostworks to date. They are not the cheapest guy in the store, but you get what you pay for. Hostworks is the best of breed in the country. Hostworks looks after the bigger players. If you want a stable environment and you want it managed correctly, we would recommend Hostworks for anyone looking to scale up and go international. Because of the fact that we want to go international, we needed to go with a company of that calibre.”
Privately held HostWorks, Inc. has provided over 500 clients with managed web hosting, web applications development and site development services since 1996. HostWorks also provides Internet Marketing Services and web application software meet business-to-business and business-to-consumer needs.

San Francisco, California - (The Hosting News) - December 5, 2007 - Data center developer and operator, 365 Main, will join IBM in a panel discussion at the inaugural Hollywood Goes Green conference, which will take place Dec. 11-12 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
The event will address environmental issues in entertainment and related industries, including Hollywood’s role in reducing global warming. 365 Main Vice President of Marketing and Strategy Miles Kelly, along with Derek Wise, president and CEO of Global Netoptex, a 365 Main customer, will participate in an IBM-sponsored roundtable discussion of innovative technology solutions for green data centers. The 50-minute session, called “IBM Project Big Green Panel Discussion, will take place on Dec. 11 at 2:15 p.m.
In recent years, Hollywood has significantly stepped up its efforts to become more eco-friendly, and this conference will allow us to further promote environmentally responsible business practices,” said David Ng, business development manager of iHollywood Forum. Having a leader in energy efficiency like 365 Main on the IBM Project Big Green panel will help educate our attendees who are serious about going green inside the data center.
According to the Report to Congress on Server and Data Center Energy Efficiency by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (August 2007), data centers consumed about 60 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2006, roughly 1.5% of total U.S. electricity consumption. The energy consumption of servers and data centers doubled in the past five years and is expected to almost double again in the next five years to more than 100 billion kWh costing about $7.4 billion annually. IBM estimates that under Project Big Green, a 25,000-square-foot data center should be able to achieve a 42 percent energy savings, which could equate to 7,439 tons of carbon emissions saved per year.
In May IBM announced Project Big Green, a $1 billion annual commitment to increase the level of energy efficiency in IT. The plan is designed to help IBM and its clients sharply reduce data center energy consumption, transforming the world’s business and public technology infrastructures into green data centers.
Mr. Kelly remarked, ”At 365 Main we’ve made a broad commitment to energy efficiency, so we’re extremely honored to participate in this groundbreaking event. We’re looking forward to a productive discussion about environmentally responsible data center development.”
Earlier this year 365 Main joined the Green Grid, a global nonprofit consortium of technology companies and professionals dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems. The company was also recognized by PG and E for its noteworthy energy-reduction accomplishments in its founding San Francisco data center and has since made its energy best-practices available to PG and E to share with other data center providers.
In May 365 Main became the first data center developer and operator to commit to full compliance with the building certification system put forth by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a non-profit organization of leaders from every sector of the building industry. In August the company announced the development of a new data center in Newark, Calif., the first data center west of the Mississippi to adopt USGBC standards and seek LEED-certification (Newark is approximately 35 miles southeast of San Francisco). The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
Other Project Big Green panelists include:
- Rich Lechner, vice president, IT optimization, IBM Systems and Technology Group
- Phil Nail, Founder and CTO, Affordable Internet Services Online Inc.
- Dave Laux, global executive, games and interactive entertainment, IBM
- Tom Burns, director, post-production infrastructure, Technicolor
- Larry Kasanoff, CEO, Threshold Animation Studios
According to the conference Web site, Hollywood Goes Green is designed for any professional with ties to the entertainment industry who wants to learn how environmental strategies will create new business opportunities. The two-day event will include a number of speakers, demos, workshops, discussions and breakout sessions. Registration information and event details can be found at www.hollywoodgoesgreen.com. For questions please contact 310-566-7745 or email zahava@ihollywoodforum.com.
