Simple Solutions for Complex Tasks

Kerio Server-Side Antivirus Protection

Dual Anti-Virus Protection

With two different anti-virus engines running simultaneously, Kerio MailServer provides double the protection against viruses. While one anti-virus vendor may be late with a virus signature, a chance that both will fail to catch a virus is significantly lower.

Kerio MailServer offers a choice of using the built-in McAfee Anti-Virus, or using one of supplied anti-virus plug-ins, or using a combination of McAfee Anti-Virus and one of the anti-virus plug-ins

Kerio MailServer with Anti-Virus Plug-ins

Kerio MailServer supports a number of top anti-virus products using plug-ins developed with help from the anti-virus software vendors.

Third-party anti-virus must be installed on the same computer as Kerio MailServer.

Kerio MailServer with Integrated McAfee Anti-Virus

With McAfee Anti-Virus already integrated in the package, Kerio MailServer delivers superior email security right out of the box.

Running the integrated anti-virus solution provides several benefits over running the stand-alone mail server with a stand-alone AV solution.

  • Benefits

    • Anti-virus settings are only mail server related; setup is simple and straight forward, with no advanced configuration options required.
    • Due to integration, the anti-virus and mail server components do not conflict with each other.
    • Only one integrated product needs to be updated for both software enhancements and virus definitions.
    • Administrators contact a single technical support center for any issues that may arise; licenses are maintained by a single vendor.

Internally Handled Anti-Virus Control

Support for gateway virus scanning makes Kerio MailServer a secure shield against the spread of computer viruses. By checking both incoming and outgoing email, the risk of infecting external addressees is much lower as well.

The outgoing anti-virus check is also performed on emails originating in and destined for the local network, which eliminates the risk of internal infection in cases where the virus does not enter the network via email.

From a technical standpoint, the anti-virus scanning in Kerio MailServer is performed at the server's kernel level. This prevents an email from bypassing the anti-virus check.
